Tuesdays, September 5, 19, October 3, 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.:  Write from the Heart:  A Workshop for Cancer Patients & Caregivers (located at Adams County Arts Center, 125 S. Washington St., Gettysburg):  The word is out:  creative writing from the heart supports cancer recovery.  This uplifting, be who you are, four-session workshop awakens the creative spirit, gently, without intimidation.  Taught in an atmosphere of warmth, whimsy and trust, it is a safe haven for experienced and first time writers alike, especially those who long to write more freely by overcoming perfectionism and self-doubt.  Discover how writing without fear has the power to console, illuminate and heal us.  Speaker:  Melissa Greene, therapeutic writing coach and teacher.  Registration is required; please call (800) 840-5905.

He spent 28 months on the island of Pohnpei, Micronesia as a TESL volunteer doing community development projects. He was also blessed to have met his wife, Newrihna Paul, during this life changing experience.  Micronesia has a rich history of legends, culture, clothing and food. Within a slideshow of her latest “Birds With A Gettysburg Address,” Bonnie Portzline will speak about CONTINUING TO LEARN and LEARNING TO CONTINUE:  When a hobby becomes a life-changing avocation. After Ms. Portzline became physically disabled during her senior year at Gettysburg College, she spent years learning to coexist with the physical, intellectual, and spiritual challenges of chronic pain. In 2000, when a friend began mentoring her in birding, she found renewed motivation and meaning, especially through sharing her photography and experiences, hoping that others may also be inspired to see birds and enjoy nature in more meaningful ways.
