Socially Distanced Fall Fitness Hikes

Date(s):   Sunday, November 29, 2020 & Sunday December 6, 2020

Time(s):  Hikes step off at 1:30 p.m., please arrive a few minutes early to sign in

Hike your way to better health with The Physical Fitness Task Force’s guided, socially distanced Fall Fitness Hikes! These fully-guided hikes are open to beginner and seasoned hikers; we will take breaks as necessary and maintain a moderate group pace while maintaining appropriate social distance. Safety and support are top priorities, and we will practice Leave No Trace outdoor ethics. Wear a mask for the gathering at the start. You may remove your mask if you like once the group is spaced out on the trail – at least 10 feet buffer space for people not in your household. It is recommended you bring a water bottle to carry with you for all hikes.

November 29th:  Slider Farm to Big Round Top on the Gettyburg National Military Park. 2.8 miles https://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/maps.htm

Take Business 15 (Steinwehr Ave/Emmitsburg Road) South from Gettysburg. Turn left on S. Confederate Drive (into battlefield). After .2 miles make a right turn into the picnic area – before the road becomes one-way. The hike crosses Slyder Farm’s fields, then climbs through the woods at the base of Big Round Top, and returns across a different portion of Slyder Farm. Expect a quiet winter experience reminiscent of the nineteenth century. Moderate difficulty, but easier than the AT to Chimney Rock hike.

December 6th:  Elizabeth D’Nunzio Trail at Mount St Mary’s. 3 miles https://www.msmary.edu

Meet at the intersection of Parking Lots A and B by the Athletic Center, 16300 Emmitsburg Rd, Emmitsburg, MD. From Interstate 15, 2 miles south of the PA border, take a left on College Lane and proceed to parking lots. The trail is relatively flat and is constructed of either gravel or sidewalk. Easy.
